Q & A session with Mr. Nair, Chairperson, ETA Technology

  • Post category:ETA-Blog

Q: What is your future plans, thinking about to getting new technology.
A: Mr. Nair – We are constantly innovating and bringing new technology and products into Indian market. In this exhibition, we are demonstrating few new technology , developed by ETA. Four square test rigs using power recirculation are devised to test multiple transmission elements. These test rigs are designed to simulate realistic loading and articulation conditions to test the performance and endurance of unit under test. Another one is Experimental Modal Analysis Kit for Simulating High G Forces and measuring the structural damping factor…

@0:27 – In testing machines Now we are developing a machine called Rail Wheel Dynamometer. Its a very huge machine and really a challenging job… and technology involved also is very high…

@2:16 – We have put a flywheel over that we put the rail wheel as a tyre so the tire as is wearing… so we have put a CNC machine turning center over the wheel the itself it’s the specialised one. All these features are there and we use motors of 11KV input capacity so that the current is minimum…

@2:43 – Now we are trying to migrate into bigger and bigger machines. Today we don’t take orders for machines  costing less than 10 lacs, it’s not viable for us. Our input costs are much higher because of the R&D, …

@3:10Q: How do you see that friction welding globally as in India, so you think India going to be a more competing marketing for the friction welding manufacturing.
@3:22A: Mr Nair – Definitely that is going to happen, we are already getting notice that earlier people were thinking that India is a land of snake charmers, that has changed with IT coming in. .. on the other way we have challenge in getting of good quality engineers in manufacturing industries due to people moving to IT. However we can see small shift, people are getting interested in this and they are coming forward and globally this is getting recognized that in India we can produce high quality machines. Example ISRO has done wonders so people have started sitting and getting noticed. Actually they feel aghast looking at the technology that we are demonstrating today…

@4:20 – The main problem in Europe, why we are not able to sell is not because they don’t have faith in our machine because they feel there is a lack of support, sitting in India whether we will be able to support their machine. While running the production line and if one of the machine stops the whole line stops. That is their fear…

@4:38 – We have to have a local person there and we are thinking of starting something there in Germany itself, where we can support…

@4:48 – Added to that we have introduced Industry 4.0 in our machine, so the new friction welding machine that we are now building…

@5:20 – We have various sensors so if the spindle bearing makes noise vibration happens either customer can know and we will also know it. So that way it is now shifted from corrective maintenance to preventive maintenance and now we taken from preventive maintenance to predictive maintenance. So they will be able to predict as the parts are wearing  and they will be able to plan better…

@6:04Q: What are the barriers to enter into the global market for business similar to ETA.
@6:14A: Mr. Nair answer says main problem is our lethargy…

@7:12Q: How is the competition to ETA in India.
@7:15A: Mr. Nair – We have chosen such field we have practically no competition…
