A Short Term Course under Continuing Education Program (CEP) on Recent Trends in Friction Stir Processing Technique (RTFSP2019)

IIT Patna hosted a three-day short term course under Continuing Education Program (CEP) on “Recent Trends in Friction Stir Processing ” (RTFSP2019) from December 18 to December 20, 2019. This was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Patna. RTFSP2019 provided a platform to interact with the students, researchers, scientists, industry professionals, and faculty members of the country. The workshop was co- sponsored by ETA Technology Bangalore.

Short Term Course highlights

  • Introduction to Friction stir processing technique
  • Theory of plasticity in deformed metallic materials
  • Structure-property correlation of deformed materials
  • Innovation in smart structures/materials
  • Electron back scattered diffraction technique
  • Finite element modeling approaches
  • Multiphase modeling in dissimilar materials

Mr. Anil Purohit (Director at ETA Technology ) gave a presentation in this event, as follows…

Overall Technology of Friction Welding Machines and its Usage , pertaining to following machines…
Friction Stir Welding Machine / Rotary Friction Welding Machine / Linear Friction Welding Machine.

Presentation Topics / Highlights …

  • Compatibility of different metals for Friction Welding Machines
  • Macro view of calculation of important Machine specifications like Spindle Power ( Torque and Speed ), Upset Force ( Axial ) , Feed Rate, Drive motor selection and Servo Hydraulics overall selection
  • Concept of HMI (Human Machine Interface )
  • Process of parameterization
  • Automatic Data Acquisition System
  • Some Practical Limitations

The workshop was targeted  for UG/PG/PhD students, Scientists in R&D organizations, Faculty Members, and Industries professionals and those who are interested in the area of processing of advanced materials, development of smart materials/structures, EBSD characterization technique, and solid state processing based hybrid additive (3D printing) manufacturing. The objective of the course was to create and modify existing tools and theories of knowledge transfer. The well organized and energizing three day courses  included sessions  that gave the representatives clear awareness regarding various aspects of research in this field.

The sessions were graced by eminent guest Speakers in RTFSP2019 like

  • Satish V. Kailas, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IISc, Bengaluru, India
  • Dr. Abhay Sharma, Department of Materials Engineering, KU Leuven – University, Belgium
  • Devinder Yadav, Assistant Professor, Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, IIT Patna
  • Anil Purohit , Director at ETA Technology, Bangalore

Sessions were  coordinated by distinguished professor  from  RTFSP2019 (Dec 18 -20, 2019),

  • Vikranth Racherla, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Kharagpur,
  • Murshid Imam, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Patna
  • Chinthapenta R Viswanath, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, IIT Hyderabad

Delegates were also given the opportunity to interact with the professors which inspired and ignited their minds.
